Robert C. Mortensen
Robert did not at first realize that the helper functions he was writing on his TI-82 for his high school chemistry class were his first introduction to programming. The skills and excitement he acquired while teaching himself TI-Basic laid a solid computer science foundation as he later moved on to Java, C, and C++.
While at BYU, Robert rode the fence between hardware and software, investigating both the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science programs. He finally settled on a mix of the two, Computer Engineering, where he could play at the hardware-software interface level developing drivers, real time operating systems, and embedded systems.
After graduating in December 2003, Robert moved to Austin, TX to join the National Instruments team. As an applications engineer he quickly fell in love with LabVIEW, which enhanced his ability to interface software and hardware. As an AE, Robert supported a wide range of NI products, focusing on LabVIEW development, instrument drivers, and industrial control. He particularly enjoyed teaching the LabVIEW Basics I/II courses to new employees and customers around the country. He further honed his LabVIEW architectural and development skills by moving into R&D as a G Developer working on NI-DAQmx Base, a cross-platform, versatile DAQ driver written entirely in LabVIEW.
Robert joined Moore Good Ideas in January 2007, and now enjoys the integration side of LabVIEW development where he can leverage his experience and background to improve and develop real-world systems and processes for customers.
